After receiving 2 toy tops (the old school ones that you spin on a countertop) in a stocking from a Santa visit on Sunday, she has since informed that they are not, in fact, tops.
They are dreidels.
Because now Midget is Jewish.
And what's even more awesome, or festive I suppose, is that after she spins it she shouts "SHIN! I win!"
Since my Jewish knowledge isn't what it used to be (or ever was), like any seeker of knowledge would do, I Googled "dreidel shin". Turns out shin means "outside of Israel", "shtel" in Yiddish or "put in". And even though there are a few other Yiddish terms used in the game, shin is it as far as Ashley is concerned.
Next time you see Ashley and she's in silver and blue instead of red and green and she greats you with Happy Chanukah (don't forget that pesky C is silent) instead of Merry Christmas, don't be surprised. Love all, right?
In the meantime I'll work with her on her love of bacon and ham.
Shalom, Ashley
