Unplugged

Wanted to share that Ashley is doing really well. If I hadn't walked in and found her, we wouldn't have even known she had a seizure. It's amazing and crazy the way their little bodies do such wild things for no reason, and how they can bounce right back without even the blink of an eye. At this point in the game an EEG will provide us (hopefully) with answers. This test will be done up in Portland sometime in the coming weeks. I promise to keep everyone updated as we learn more. In the meantime we continue on with life as usual, which Midget is happy about! I have my concerns and worries about how the EEG will go down, but I will spare you. But try and imagine our crazy Asharoo + 20-some electrodes all over her head and I bet you come up with some interesting conclusions. :)
Our pediatrician assured us she will be okay and that Jake and I should continue with our trip to San Fran. We have mixed feelings about leaving but we know the girls are in great and loving hands. Thank you Mom, Dad, Kathy, Danny and Sissie for your combined efforts to watch the girls while we are away. So while we are away I will be unplugged. I didn't want anyone worried that no blog posts meant that something monumental was going on.
Huge thanks to everyone that has offered words of support, a shoulder to cry on and loving prayers. Among other things, this has reminded me how great God is and how calming a prayer of hope can be. I pray that He blesses you as you have blessed us.

As quick as possible

I know many of you are asking and looking for answers. So as quick as possible I wanted to share that yes, Ashley did have a seizure last night a little before 10 pm. We spent a few hours in the Emergency Department while they checked her out. So far cat scans, blood work and urinalysis all look good. She has a follow-up with her pediatrician this morning where more tests will be scheduled/conducted.
Many thanks and loves to Danny for rushing up to the house to watch Natalie. Kathy and Katie for showing up at the ED, and for bringing me shoes to wear. Andy for sending along Ashley's Minnie Mouse doll with Katie so she had something to cuddle and squeeze. Mom and Dad for coming up to the hospital. And to Jake for remaining calm and focused and solid and strong.
And by this point in our Greatest Thing relationship you should know that I will post a blog with details about the nights events in the next couple of days. And yes, yes there will be pictures to share. Don't look so surprised.

Last stop...

...before we head north.
Before Jake and I settled in for the drive home we made stops in Shady Cove and Eagle Point and visited a covered bridge, an old-fashioned phone booth and a great little antique store. Who knew so much greatness could be packed into such tiny towns?

Antelope Creek Bridge, Eagle Point, Oregon
Notice how Mister Too Cool For School didn't participate in crazy-pose? Hmpf.
Making the Jakester pose for a pic since he was being such a poopy-pants before
The magic behind the camera
A little PDA
Shawna pretending to be British
It was a lovely 100 degrees outside, at least 150 inside the booth, and yet they still piled in when I requested a group pic. They must really love me!
Squint real hard and maybe I'll come into focus
Look close and you'll see hundreds of men's neckties hanging from these trees - this place is at Shady Kate's Antique Store in Shady Cove, Oregon and I'm not sure the meaning behind the neckties, but it certainly looks cool
Quick bite to eat along the Rogue River
Dipping her toes in the Rogue - even when it's 100+ outside, it's still icy cold in the Rogue. Just ask Shawna.

Cousin madness

Check out these cousin cuties!
Now if only we could get Pippin in on the action, too. Problem with that is that I'm not sure the world is ready for so much cuteness all at one time.

Oh the memories these guys will make!

Milling about

The morning Jake and I left Medford, we, along with the lovely Shawna and Jessica, loaded into the car and went site-seeing around some teeny towns in So-Or (I think maybe So-Cal sounds cooler, but who knows, maybe So-Or will catch on?).
Jake, thanks to iPhone and Google, found a neat little trinket in Eagle Point: Butte Creek Mill. An actual mill that grinds wheat (and various other grains) using the same water-powered machines it was using when it opened 132 years ago. Pretty impressive if you ask me.
There wasn't any actual grain-grinding going on since it was Sunday, but we were still able to cruise through, take pictures, buy wares and learn some great history. Did you know that back in the diz-ay Butte Creek Mill would take every 7th bag of grain it milled for a farmer as payment for grinding their wheat? This way they would 1. have flour to sell and 2. have flour to trade for goods with the local Indian tribe. Talk about being "American made"; at it's finest!
I'm so thankful Jake found such a historical and unique place for us to visit and experience. Plus, nestled right next door to the mill was a great little antique store. Perhaps if Jake had known of the store before he mentioned a trip to Butte Creek, he wouldn't have shared? Too bad for him!

We have arrived
Where the magic happens - this is the upstairs, the actual water turbines and cogs and wheels and such are downstairs
A nifty little cooler in the general store full of sodas and water
Wait. I thought Buckwheat was a Little Rascal?
Happy little historians
This is my dream table - would easily fit 16 people around it with room to spare!
Ax marks in an overhead beam - each mark made by a dedicated and focused man
Trying to give you an idea of how big the beams downstairs were - they were easily wider than my shoulders. And even though I'm no Packer linebacker, that's still one heck of a chunk of timber.
Stairwell upstairs - easy to tell these are the original stairs, just look at those years of wear and tear
The backside of Butte Creek Mill
...now off to the antique store...
Shawna trying, desperately, to find a man taller than she is
Posing with 'the boys'
How adorable - I'm pretty sure I need a dinner bell like this. Who wants to make one? Don't all jump at once.
Just so we're clear
Look Sissie!! "I've tiddled my last wink!"

30 & fab!

Mama's watch your sons; she a cougar now!
Happy birthday, Shawna!!
Click here to experience Ashley singing to Aunt Shawna first thing this morning: before her coffee, before her glasses, before her pants.
Oh yeah, Shawna. I just said that.
We love you and wish you a happy, happy 30th!

More Medford mayhem

After our jetboating fun on The Rogue, we stopped at a roadside farm stand to check out their wares. In addition to the fruits and veggies, they also have a you-cut herb and flower garden, petting zoo, children's play area and original cabin from the early 1900's. Such a fun little hidden treasure!
After the fun on the farm, we cleaned ourselves up and headed out for dinner and a comedy show at Wild Rivers Pub. I admit I was skeptical of a comedy show, at a pub, in Grants Pass. Turns out funny folks do visit small southern town in Oregon. Guess they showed me!

Feeling hot, hot, hot! Tasty peppers.
Only now am I realizing the 'picnic area' arrow is pointed directly toward Shawna's nether-regions. Whoops. Should have more closely examined the area in which I was photographing. Photographer fail.
Fall is in the air and in the crates too! Brightly colored fall squash means crisp weather and pumpkin spices are just around the corner!
2 attempts at this picture and Jessica and I have our eyes closed in both of them. Good girl, Shawna; you braved the direct sunlight like a champ. Too bad your retinas will forever be scarred.
Group shot - by this point they were all annoyed at my "take off your sunglasses for the pic!" request, so I didn't even bother asking
Giant granite milling stone
You scream! I scream!
...later that evening...

Dressed in our best
I finally got a pic of Jake without his shades
Our weekend hostesses with the mostess's
All of us sandwiched in-between the 2 headliner comedians; can't remember the name of the bald dude on the left (who I just realized is pointing to Shawna's girls - what is it with pictures showcasing her privates?!), but the fella next to Jessica is Steven Mazan. Both guys were quite comical; Steve has a documentary coming out called Dying to Do Letterman; check it out! He has such an amazing story.
The giant wall map in the main part of the pub - I put a little red pin where Amity would be listed, if Amity were a town big enough for listing. Turns our we're the first Amitonians (or Amityites or whatever those whom hail from Amity are called) to visit the pub before. Go figure.

7 night itch

Her seventh night in her bgb and Ashley pulled out another all-nighter. She was tucked in tight when I check her at 10:30 last night and still snug as a bug in a rug when I checked her this morning at 7:15 am.
Can I get a booya?!!
How many times does it take before something becomes a habit because I think Midget is on her way!

Worldess Wednesday

Southern belles and a gent too

Thanks to Sissie who willingly watched BOTH girls for an ENTIRE weekend, Jake and I took a little trip down south to visit Shawna and Jessica. Normally I don't travel too the heat, but since this particular weekend was on track to be 100 degrees in The Valley, I figured I could suffer just as much down there as I would up here. In a crazy twist of weather I think it was actually a few degrees hotter up north than down south, although is there much of a difference between 101 and 99? Coming from the girl who doesn't like it warmer than 80, no. No there's no difference at all.
We had a fun Saturday jetboat trip planned. Having just been on the Willamette Jetboat Excursion a few weeks prior, I was excited to experience the trip with Jessica who had never been on a ride and didn't know exactly what to expect. Whereas Portland's ride had a bit of a history lesson in it, the Hellgate Jetboat ride on the Rogue River was more about taking in the absolutely breathtaking scenery. And take it in we did!
Our little trip down south had other fun and exciting things; all of which I will share over the course of a few days. See how I tease you just to keep you coming back? :) Don't lie. You love it.

Riding shotgun, headed down I-5
Up and at 'em Saturday morning for our jetboat ride
Waiting in the burning-hot sun, looking forward to the first jetboat splash
Locked and loaded
Loving the wind-blown look
All of the fishermen where happy to show off their catches. Also their bodies. This particular guy caught a giant salmon in addition to Shawna and Jessica's eye.
See that white flower painted on the right side of the bridge base? That's how high up the flood of 1963 made it. Or maybe it was 65? Or was it 1996? Whatever. The point I'm failing to make is that, no matter the year, that's a heck-of-alotta water.
Jessica, enjoying the wind in her face
Another look at how high the waters got during the 63/65/96 flood; the rock sticking up on the left side of the picture? There's a giant log caught on that which was forced up there during the flood. Again, no matter the year, that's some serious water.
Welcome to Hellgate on The Rogue River. Look familiar? Maybe you've seen it during scenes of Rooster Cogburn? Or Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid? Regardless, the 100 foot rock cliffs are an amazing display of what Mother Nature can create.

Guess who just took one to the face?
No, your eyes are not deceiving you. That is a baby, in a pack-n-play, IN the river. You might be a redneck if...
